The 2020 Fund is a strategic philanthropic platform dedicated to accelerating and achieving a successful transition to Sustainable Earth, beginning with measurable outcomes for a critical Year 2020 milestone.
Strategy
The Fund’s strategic focus is Capacity Building for the network of organizations that are dedicated to this mission outcome. Specifically, the 2020 Fund is accountable for development, delivery and maintenance of the C2020 enterprise, the highest leverage capacity-building engine we can imagine, designed to meet the urgency of our time. C2020 and the 2020 Fund will drive strategic investment to achieve vital goals on a critical path to Sustainable Earth.
Background
Inspired by a vision in the mid-1990s, a series of projects have incubated the C2020 concept into a credible and timely solution. Early 2020 Fund projects articulated the 2020 Challenge and Opportunity, and the needs and desires of movement leaders. This commitment to the 2020 vision inspired major foundations (Rockefeller, Mott, King Baudouin Foundations, Rockefeller Brothers Fund, and others) to convene for formative “stakeholder listening projects” and strategic research and development that crystallized the need, the barriers, and the opportunity for C2020. This work lays the foundation for our current initiatives.
Four year strategic objectives
The next build-launch-develop phase for C2020 requires the following actions in collaboration with strategic alliance partners:
- Enlist requisite leadership to co-create C2020, including
- C2020 Leadership Council, and governance body
- Strategic Capabilities Partners/initial CNO
- 2020 Fund Governance Board
- Committed Donors/Sponsors for C2020 build-launch-develop
- Assure development, delivery and funding for C2020
- Strategic Capabilities, including the 2020 Fund Philanthropic Portal and Advisory Services
- With this C2020 structure and strategic capabilities support critical correlate campaigns, e.g. MDG, 350.org, 4YG, Global Shift Initiative, and others to thrive and excel
- Develop strategic initiatives to accelerate cohesive bioregional, industry or issue progress
